Adele turns down festival appearances admitting she is "frightened" of big audiences (by admin)

Smash hit singer Adele is turning down millions of pounds to play at big festivals because of her fear of crowds.

The "Someone like you" singer said she is frightened of playing for huge audiences and is worried about having an "anxiety attack".

The 23-year-old made the revelation in a recent interview with Q magazine, where she posed for the front cover of the 300th edition.

The singer, whose career rocketed after performing Someone LikeYou at the Brits in February, is estimated to be worth s6 million, according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List.

But, despite her fear of crowds, she is determined to continue playing small venues and refuses to sign up for festivals. She told Q: "I will not do festivals. The thought of anaudience that big frightens the life out of me. I don't think the musicwould work either. It's all too slow.

"I'd hate to book a festival and have a f****** anxiety attack and then not go on stage, do you know what I mean?"

Arenas are also out. She revealed that her management team hadan option to book three nights at the 23,000-capacity London O2 Arenabut she rejected the idea.

Adele said she told them: "I'd rather do 12 years at the Barfly than one night at the O2."

She added: "So I've made all those decisions and some people are pretty mortified - they think I'm mad."

In the interview, published tomorrow in the July edition of themagazine, the singer rejected the idea of tie-ups with major brands. "It depends on what kind of artist you wanna be but I don'twant my name anywhere near another brand. I don't wanna be tainted orhaunted - I don't wanna sell out in any way."

She was critical of fellow star Duffy, who was condemned for starring in a Diet Coke ad.

But she joked that she could cash in if she wanted.

"If I was money-driven, I'd be very excited about the money coming in. I'd be the face of full-fat Coke.

Get another million in the bank."
