YOUR WHATS ON GUIDE TO NORTHERN IRELAND

Welcome to The Jungle! By Christina Hanna
This month the Big Buzz team descended on The Jungle NI in Magherafelt for a day of ziplining and zorbing!
The Jungle is located on a massive 200 acres of woodland and holds a massive range of exciting adventure activities to get anyone’s adrenaline pumping!
The Buzz team showed up ready to try out everything they threw at us!
The Jungle is really beautifully laid out, complete with quaint wood cabin offices, a field full of llamas and rustic forest surrounding the entire area. When we arrived, we were greeted by our instructor for the day, Stevie, and shown around the area, which the team at The Jungle are constantly developing and improving.
Stevie showed us down to where they are currently building huge wooden “pods” decked out with bunk beds, to set up a luxury camping experience on site for any groups that want to come and stay at The Jungle. We then took a tour of their incredible paintball facilities, with players being able to choose their site – in the woods or on a massive faux-graveyard complete with mock-church, tombstones and coffins.
The paintball at The Jungle has been going since 2005 and since won numerous awards… We will definitely be going back to The Jungle soon for a paintball battle! We then had a sneak peek at the brand new paintball site the team are building and the forest Segway trails that are being opened to the public soon!
Then it was to the treetops for the adventure course, which was absolutely incredible! After a safety demonstration and practice session, we found ourselves 70 feet up in the treetops, moving over shaky bits of wood suspended from the treetops before we reached a huge zipline that whizzes you at top speed through the forest, which was amazing! After completing the zipline, the scariest bit was still to come – the powerfan drop, described by The Jungle as “an adrenaline freefall drop in safety and without needing to deploy a parachute…” Yeah, none of us were expecting that one… and it was absolutely terrifying, but totally exhilarating to tip yourself off that platform and experience the feeling of freefalling!
After we had knackered ourselves on the ropes course, it was on to another adrenaline rush: zorbing… that is, hurtling down a hill in a massive inflatable ball at high speed. Lovely. We decided to try the “harnessed zorbing” where you are strapped into the ball at the shoulders, hips and feet for a high intensity ride. Also available at The Jungle is “hydro zorbing” where you ride in the ball alongside 10 gallons of water, creating a water chute effect for a less intense zorbing experience.
Stevie got us strapped in and we went barrelling down the hill screeching at the top of our lungs. Most of us nearly lost our lunch, but it was such an amazing experience, nothing like any other ride I have ever been on. It went on a lot longer than you would expect and you can barely see or hear anything because of your body being rolled over and over and over! It was brilliant and we screamed our heads off down the whole hill! (Well, I screamed at Andrew mostly, who kept threatening to puke on me!)
The Jungle also features activities such as archery, clay pigeon shooting and outdoor fitness classes.
Their facilities also include hot tubs, a barbecuing area and a large sheltered picnic area for parties in the forest! They cater for birthday parties, families, hen and stag parties, corporate events, and youth and school groups. Stevie was a fantastic instructor, friendly, upbeat and all the while safety-conscious and informative. There is something for everybody at this place, and you are guaranteed a fantastic day out whatever you sign up for!
The Jungle is located right in the heart of Northern Ireland, just off the A29 between Cookstown and Magherafelt.
